We believe that there is an opportunity to provide users with an easier navigation system and clean up the amount of information housed on the homepage

Miro, Google Workplace, Figma, Slack, Zoom
My Responsibilities:
UX Research, Ideation, Prototyping, User Testing, Iterations

Homepage Annotations
Menu
The menu bar on this site is directed towards the entire Canadian government but t is not relevant to the CFIA Website. Currently there is no Navigation bar for the CFIA. Since this is the global navigation, we should move it to the top of the web page. A new navigation bar needs to be created to help the user work through the CFIA website specifically.
CFIA-Specific Information
These sections should be converted into a navigation/menu bar for the CFIA. The links in this section can be sorted based on similarities. Using card sorting we will break down L1/L2 content within the new navigation bar to better sort the content.
Most Requested
This can be removed or possibly moved to pop up as suggested search options when the user clicks the "Search" bar.
Usability Testing for Navigation
Objective
Can the users successfully navigate the CFIA website?
Goal/Output
Gain understanding for what the user might expect to find on this site.
Gain understanding for what the user might expect to find in the "Menu"
Observe the user navigating for organic product information
Comments from Users
User 1
"Menu doesn't look like it has anything to do with the agency."
User 2
"I had to scroll a long way to find what I was looking for and I wasn't even sure if I would."
User 3
"The menu should include things related to the CFIA maybe things like food leaving/entering the country."

Usability Testing for Redesign
Objective
Can users successfully navigate the CFIA website redesign?
Usability Issues
Is it easy to tell the mission of the CFIA website?
Are users able to easily navigate to information about "Organic Products?"
Are users able to easily navigate to the "Contact Us" portion of the site?
Goal/Output
Observe how users would navigate the redesigned site to contact the CFIA with questions.
Assumptions
Gain understanding for what the user might expect to find on this new redesigned site.
Steps
Talk me through how you would try to navigate to information about "Organic Products?"
What would have made this easier?
What would you change?
User Comments
User 1
"It's easy to navigate. I would iterate the topics where they are better described."
User 2
"The images are clear. The two flags together feel like a lot. I think it's really clean. Maybe add a description to the categories."
User 3
"Maybe the navigation could use arrows to show that it drops down, otherwise it's easy to navigate."
Mobile Iteration
Updates
Decreased the size fo the hamburger menu. Added descriptions to the "Latest" and "Feature" section.
Final Prototypes
Final Thoughts
"I learned that it take time to analyze and break down the challenges of a website. Changing a website to a mobile version is challenging."
"Organization is key. I need to write out all of my steps and stick to the plan."
"Practice makes perfect. I would approach or break down the project in a way that helps be more successful."
